Retail all-inclusive pricing is built for people who book once a year. Wholesale package pricing is built for desks that move hundreds of rooms a month. The gap? 30–50%.
How wholesale all-inclusive pricing works
Major tour operators (Apple Leisure, Funjet, Pleasant Holidays, etc.) pre-buy room blocks from resort chains at net rates. They bundle air + hotel + transfers + meals/drinks/activities into a single package price. That package price is lower than the resort’s own website “all-inclusive” rate because:
- Volume commitment — operators guarantee occupancy
- Air-hotel margin blending — airline seat costs are absorbed into the package
- No OTA commissions — sold direct or through agency desks, not Expedia/Booking.com
The result: a 5-night Cancún all-inclusive that retails at $3,200/couple often wholesales at $1,900–$2,200 with the same room category, same inclusions.
The 5-night sweet spot
Package wholesalers price around 5-night stays (Saturday–Thursday or Sunday–Friday). Shorter stays lose the air-hotel blending margin; longer stays dilute the per-night value.
| Stay length | Typical wholesale discount vs. retail |
|---|---|
| 3 nights | 15–20% |
| 5 nights | 30–45% |
| 7 nights | 25–35% |
| 10+ nights | 20–30% |
If you can do 5 nights, you hit the pricing engine’s sweet spot.
Kids-stay-free: the real math
Many resorts advertise “kids stay free” — but the fine print matters:
- Age cutoffs: usually ≤12, sometimes ≤17 at family brands (Beaches, Club Med)
- Room occupancy: 2 adults + 2 kids max in standard rooms; suites allow more
- Airfare: “free” rarely includes kids’ flights — those are separate. The booking-timing guide covers when to buy them.
A family of 4 (2 adults, 2 kids under 12) at a Beaches resort in Turks & Caicos:
- Retail 5-night: ~$7,800 (incl. kids’ air)
- Wholesale package: ~$4,900 (incl. kids’ air)
The wholesale desk absorbs the kids’ airfare into the package margin.
Resort-fee traps at “all-inclusive” properties
Even all-inclusives can hit you with mandatory fees:
| Fee type | Typical range | Often waived at wholesale? |
|---|---|---|
| Resort/destination fee | $25–$75/night | Yes — usually baked into package |
| Mandatory gratuities | $15–$30/night | Sometimes |
| Premium alcohol surcharge | $10–$25/night | Only at ultra-luxury tiers |
| Spa/excursion deposits | $50–$200 hold | No — incidentals still on your card |
Key question to ask: “Does the quoted package price include all mandatory resort fees and taxes?” If they hesitate, it’s not a true wholesale package.
2026 regional value leaders
| Region | Best wholesale value (5-night, 2 adults) | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Cancún/Riviera Maya | $1,800–$2,400 | Highest operator competition, most airlift |
| Punta Cana | $1,600–$2,200 | Volume discounts from DR tourism board subsidies |
| Los Cabos | $2,200–$3,000 | Newer inventory, less operator density |
| Jamaica (Montego Bay) | $1,700–$2,300 | Strong Funjet/Apple Leisure presence |
| Costa Rica (Guanacaste) | $2,400–$3,200 | Limited airlift keeps retail high; wholesale gap wider |
How to book wholesale without being a travel agent
You don’t need a CLIA/IATA card. You need a concierge with wholesale desk access:
- We query live package inventory across 5+ major operators
- We show you the package breakdown — air, hotel, transfers, fees
- You approve the total — no hidden resort fees, no surprise taxes
- We book and manage — changes, special requests, documentation
The trade-off: wholesale packages are less flexible (change fees $150–$300 pp, cancellation penalties steeper). But for a fixed vacation plan, the savings are real.
